Probate and Estate Administration

We take care of probate, so you can take care of your family.

Losing someone is hard enough without a mountain of legal paperwork. We give executors and families across South Manchester supportive, experienced help to administer an estate, with as much or as little involvement as you need.

Experienced administering estates of any size

When someone dies, their executors or personal representatives are responsible for dealing with their money, property and affairs. Before they can, they usually need legal authority to act.

That authority comes from a Grant of Representation. Where there is a Will, it is called a Grant of Probate. Where there is no Will, it is a Grant of Letters of Administration. We help you obtain the grant and then deal with the estate itself.

We have considerable experience administering estates of every type and size. We take the time to understand your situation, and we tailor our involvement to exactly what you need, so you are never doing this alone.

Common questions

Probate is the legal process of dealing with the estate of someone who has died. It usually starts with obtaining a Grant of Representation, which gives you authority to deal with their assets.

If there is a valid Will, the grant is called a Grant of Probate. If there is no Will, it is a Grant of Letters of Administration, and the estate is dealt with under the rules of intestacy.

Not always. Smaller or simpler estates can sometimes be dealt with without one. We will tell you early on whether a grant is needed in your case.

It depends on the size and complexity of the estate, whether a Will was in place, if there are any disputes and on matters such as property sales and tax. A typical timescale is 6 to 12 months. We give you a realistic timescale at the start and keep you updated.

It is up to you. We can handle the whole estate or simply support you with the parts you would rather not do yourself.
